Desmond Tutu, wêreldwyd gehuldig as die vader van die Reënboognasie, was versot oor opera, en oor Kaapstad Opera het hy gesê: “Die Suid-Afrikaanse stem is uniek, ryk aan kleur en krag, en dit verteenwoordig die land se beste karaktereienskappe. Kaapstad Opera koester daardie stem en voorsien so geleenthede vir ’n rykdom van talent.”

Desmond Tutu, internationally recognised as the father of the Rainbow Nation, was besotted with opera, remarking once: “The South African voice is unique, rich with colour and strength and it represents this country’s best qualities. Cape Town Opera nurtures that voice, providing opportunities for a wealth of talent.” Placido Domingo and William Kentridge, amongst others, also praised our South African musicians. In this gala concert, they will spoil you with renditions of the most beautiful arias and choir pieces, from Puccini to Purcell. With us, you are proverbially in the company of “adults” at this commemoration of the festival’s 21st year
