Artscape is a cultural agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture established circa 1999. It opened at the Nico Malan Theatre on 19 May 1971. The home of a fully inclusive theatre experience boasts arts genres from opera, pop, rock, hip-hop, orchestral, indigenous, ballet, dance, drama and more. It is also home to the Associated Companies, Cape Town Opera; Cape Town City Ballet; Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra; Jazzart Dance Theatre; Unmute Dance Company, Elvis Sibeko Productions, Woman Zone Zip Zap Circus and Fine Music Radio.
The emphasis remains on sustainable theatre practice, education, and development.
