Sankofa is a Twi word from the Akan people of Ghana. It means to "go back and fetch what has been left behind." In our journeys we may lose our sense of self, our history, our will to fight. We may lose language or ways of being. Sankofa invites us to go back and fetch what has been lost so that we can return whole.
