Sponono opened in March and unfortunately ran for only four months. When Sponono’s run ended, Semenya elected to stay behind with the intention of furthering his musical knowledge. Whilst in new Yolk, he worked extensively with Miriam Makeba, also with Hugh Masekela and Jonas Gwangwa. His close association with Mirriam Makeba led then South African government to declare him persona-Non-Grata. That same year, in December, his wife Letta Mbulu Left South Africa to join him. 08-DEC
