Caiphus Semenya is one of the South African’s foremost musical directors and composers, dedicating a lifetime of work as a performer and arranger of African music. Semenya left South Africa for new Yok, USA in February 1964 with the cast of Sponono , a musical stage drama that was written by Allen Paton. Sponono opened in March and unfortunately ran for only four months. When Sponono’s run ended, Semenya elected to stay behind with the intention of furthering his musical knowledge. Whilst in new Yolk, he worked extensively with Miriam Makeba, also with Hugh Masekela and Jonas Gwangwa.
