William Kentridge will be presented with the 2024 FynArts Legacy Award in honour of a longstanding and distinctive contribution to the arts in South Africa and beyond. Acclaimed for his drawings, films, theatre and opera productions, William’s work spans a diverse range of artistic media including painting, drawing, writing, performance, animation, film, puppetry, printmaking, tapestry and sculpture.

Learn about the healing properties of indigenous botanicals derived from fynbos and herbs while enjoying a sensory experience. Isililo was a winner in the Johannesburg 48-hour film project, the time allocated for the creation of a short film. This project was part of an international competition challenging budding filmmakers to make movies.
The film had a screening at the Mall of Africa, Ster-Kinekor cinemas.

Modernist sculptors Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae were two of the most important artists of the 20th century. Senior art specialist Marion will tell their story, based on the work of authors Gavin Watkins and Charles Skinner, who spent 25 years researching and writing The Sculptures of Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae - A Catalogue Raisonné, published by Strauss & Co.These artists exhibited broadly in South Africa, England, Italy and the United States during the 1960s – 1990s and their work remains much sought after by private collectors and public museums and institutions.
Penny Haw will talk to fellow author Gail Gilbride about her latest historical novel. The Woman at the Wheel is based on the real life of Bertha Benz, whose husband Carl built the first commercially-viable automobile, which eventually evolved into the Mercedes-Benz marque. Like so many other women, Bertha lived largely in her husband’s shadow, but her contributions are now celebrated in this inspiring story of perseverance, resilience, and love.
