This small group walking tour through central Cape Town will reveal the intricate connections and overlays between Cape Town’s ecosystems, histories, and food lineages, from precolonial to present day. The tour sheds light on how history shapes the modern-day food system in Cape Town, and how the city is shaping our food system`s future. Enjoy iconic, delicious streetfood and snacks along the way. The tour has been created by Dr Andrew Boraine, historian and CEO of the Western Cape Economic Development Partnership. Each walking tour experience is led by a local, professional guide and each group is limited to 15 guests.

This specially curated experience engages food, community and stories from the heart of Philippi at Philippi Village, a former concrete factory now home to a library, NGO offices, a container retail mall, graffiti gallery and skate park. Eight hectares of land are also being turned into productive food space. A local community member and a Philippi Village ambassador will host 20 guests on the tour that also takes in a photographic exhibition co-created exclusively for Food Dialogues, and culminates in a delicious farm-to-fork meal at Phunga, the village cafe, inspired by recipes from the community. Guests will take a shuttle from/to the Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront.
