Joe Parker, more than anyone else, has advanced stand-up comedy in South Africa creating opportunity and work for comics starting out, and those at the veteran end of their careers…and everything in between.
Joe’s comedy career kicked off in 1971 in a very different South Africa, and since then beginning he has won a reputation as an outstanding comic, mentor, promoter and pioneering comedy club owner.
This “Lifetime Achiever” and “Best Friend of Comedy” Award winner shares his Life in Comedy story.
Pippa Tshabalala is best known as the television host of South Africa’s first locally produced TV show on video games – The Verge.
She holds a BAFA and MAFA (Digital Animation) from Wits University and lectured 3D animation at Honours and Masters level at Wits Digital Arts.
She has made many impressive lists – from Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans to BrandSA’s 40 under 40. She has hosted and spoken at numerous tech events, including co-hosting BCX Disrupt with keynote speakers Will.I.Am and Malcolm Gladwell. Pippa is passionate about all things video games and animation. She is currently the On Air and Creative Services Manager for The Walt Disney Company Africa.

Thierry Cassuto is the Founder and CEO of Both Worlds, an award-winning Cape Town based film, television and digital content production company.
In 1998, Thierry created ZANEWS’ Puppet Nation, the first satirical show in South Africa, which ran daily for ten years and became the most awarded TV and online show in the country.
Thierry was twice nominated for an international Emmy award for ZANEWS, won a grand total 27 SAFTAs, 10 NAB Bookmarks, was named Financial Mail Newsmaker of the year in 2010 and was a SAMA nominee for directing controversial music video Chicken to Change with band Freshlyground, featuring Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe.
