About

Entering its 8th edition in 2026, the Joburg Film Festival returns under the theme Feel the Frame, celebrating bold African and global storytelling. Experience cinema as a sensory, emotional journey — where powerful stories, exceptional talent, and filmmaking excellence come together on screen. From compelling screenings to a glamorous awards ceremony honouring filmmakers with the prestigious Nguni Horn, JFF invites audiences to feel every moment of the cinematic experience.

The Joburg Film Festival (JFF), presented by MultiChoice (a Canal + company), is the signature property of Native Yards, an African entity passionate about the creative industries and content aggregation. Since its inception in 2016, JFF has been positioned as Africa’s premier festival and is now recognized as a leading film and cultural event - a space where creativity, art and business converge in one hub over 6 days. Through expert curation, the festival showcases African and International films, while providing various opportunities for discussions, growth, reflection, development, skills transfer, and networking for established and emerging professionals and youth and aspirant filmmakers alike.

Entering its 8th edition in 2026, the Joburg Film Festival (JFF) continues its commitment to championing African and global cinema, offering audiences an immersive celebration of storytelling, craft, and creative collaboration. It is built on four strategic pillars that shape all programming, namely the Film Programme, JBX our industry programme, Young Voices and the Film Society – a monthly film screening and networking event. These 4 components are represented in the festival curation, alongside daily special events and networking opportunities designed to maximise engagement, visibility, and impact for participants, attendees and partners.

Under the evocative theme Feel the Frame, JFF invites audiences to experience cinema not just as entertainment, but as a deeply sensory and emotional art form. The festival shines a spotlight on the artistry behind every frame — from directing, writing, and performance to cinematography, sound design, editing, costume, and production design. Each element works in harmony to create films that move, inspire, and resonate far beyond the screen.

At the heart of JFF 2026 is the power of collaboration. To feel the frame is to recognise the collective vision that brings stories to life — the director’s intent, the actor’s presence, the rhythm of editing, the emotional pull of music, and the subtle storytelling embedded in sound, light, and design. Together, these elements transform film into a shared human experience that connects audiences across cultures and continents.

Experience the Joburg Film Festival your way with a selection of curated passes designed for industry professionals, passionate film lovers, students, and those joining for a single day. From red-carpet premieres and standout screenings to industry conversations and creative exchange at JBX, each pass offers a distinct way to engage with the festival. Choose the option that best suits your journey through JFF.

Beyond screenings, the festival culminates in a glamorous awards ceremony, where outstanding filmmakers are honoured with the Nguni Horn — a powerful symbol of strength, heritage, and excellence in African storytelling.
