The Elginairs Dance Band was established as Young Broadways in the seventies by Mr. Carl Joorst, better known as Oom Kallie. Their first performance was at the Botriver tennis courts, creating music from a sound system that consisted of a car radio and two hi-fi speakers. Oom Kallie’s house was also the place where the band practiced; therefore, all his children grew up with music. He later changed the name of the band to Elginairs Dance Band with his sons Anthony, Johny and Vernon as members.
