The National Eisteddfod Academy (NEA) is a registered Non-Profit Company that kindles youth development through participation in the performing arts on a multi-cultural level in schools and communities in various provinces.
The National Eisteddfod’s Showcase events are highlights on the annual calendar and celebrate the achievements of our young performers in the various regions of the National Eisteddfod of South Africa®. For these events only a limited number of performers, nominated by the adjudicators, are invited to perform.
An important feature of the National Eisteddfod’s Showcase events is the award ceremony where the achievements of participants in the various region of the National Eisteddfod are acknowledged. The certificates, medals and other awards that are presented at these events provide a strong incentive to young performers and create greater awareness of the arts.
The National Eisteddfod of South Africa has been involved with the Roodepoort Theatre, where numerous Showcase concerts and other events were presented Theare, for the past 25 years. The Roodepoort Theatre recently celebrated 45 years of artistic excellence at a gala event. Highlights of this event were the launch of a 45th Anniversary Book and the unveiling of a "Walk of Fame", a permanent foyer installation with the names of artists and institutions, including the National Eisteddfod of South Africa, whose work has left an indelible mark on South Africa’s cultural landscape. For the National Eisteddfod Academy, a particularly proud moment was the inclusion and recognition of the National Eisteddfod of South Africa and the CEO, Dr. Francois van den Berg for giving thousands of young performers the chance to shine on the Roodepoort Theatre stage over the past 25 years.
