In the late twentieth century composers such as Arvo Pärt, Henryk Gorecki, Kim Andre Arnesen and Eric Whitacre reacted against the inaccessible music of the avant-garde. We will be presenting a selection from these composers performed by Vox Cape Town, interspersed with chamber music , including the delicate miniatures of the British composer Jeremy Dale Roberts and music by Debussy. The performance, Of Light, a setting by Grant McLachlan of four South African poems, will conclude the programme.
