Uniquely South African, spinning was born in the 1980s as an outlaw sport, with cars sling-shotting nonstop around a rectangular pitch, most often in a roughly ‘figure-of-eight’ path, with their rear wheels spinning continuously until one or both rear tyres burst.
Often the driver will leave their seat and hang out of the window, climb on to the roof or run alongside the car while the engine roars and the rear wheels spin – the more outrageous the stunt the more the crowds love it!
