Spanning centuries, continents and cultures, Joburg Ballet’s DREAMWORKS illuminates mid-winter with three ballet by choreographers Sbonakaliso Ndaba, August Bournonville and Jayd Swart.
Ndaba’s Indumiso (world premiere) is inspired by a poem by Wally Serote that pays homage to Oliver Tambo; Bournonville’s classical jewel, Napoli, is a 19th-century celebration of the exhilarating Danish style and will be staged for Joburg Ballet by Bournonville expert, Peter Bo Bendixen; the third ballet in DREAMWORKS is Umbani (world premiere), in which choreographer Jayd Swart unleashes the powerful neo-classical energy of Joburg Ballet.
