About

Songhoy Blues is a Malian desert blues band formed by guitarist Garba Touré from Timbuktu, who was forced to move to Bamako during the civil conflict and imposition of Sharia Law. There, together with Aliou Touré and Oumar Touré they created Songhoy Blues "... to recreate that lost ambience of the north and make all the refugees relive those northern songs." The group released their debut album “Music in Exile” in 2012 and is one of the principal subjects of the documentary film “They Will Have To Kill Us First.”

We found out they were in Cape Town shooting a movie and now you can catch them for ONE NIGHT ONLY with support by Congo Cowboys at Mercury.
