Golden Gate National Park Hiking Experience

Golden Gate Highlands National Park is located in Free State, near the Lesotho border. The park's most notable features are its golden, ochre, and orange-hued, deeply eroded sandstone cliffs and outcrops, especially the Brandwag rock.

The rolling foothills of the Maluti Mountains create a spectacular backdrop in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park. While it is rewarding driving on the winding roads as they meander through the mountainous terrain, an even better way to experience this beauty is with a pair of sturdy hiking boots.

The park offers a variety of shorter day hikes as well as an existing overnight trail.
